இது வரை என் வாழ்க்கையில் நான் ஒரு நெருக்கமான உறவில் இருந்ததில்லை. இல்லாத ஒன்றைத் துளைத்துவிட்டால் எப்படி இருக்கும் என்று உணர்வது கடினம். துரதிஷ்டமாக, ஒருவர் தன் காதலை இழந்தால், அவர் மனநிலையை, இளையராஜாவின் இந்தப் பாடலை விடச் சிறப்பாக யாரும் வர்ணிக்க இயலாது. ஆரம்பத்தில் உள்ள பெங்காலி வரிகளின் அர்த்தம் என்னவென்று தெரியாமல் பல முறை கேட்டு மகிழ்த்ததுண்டு. இப்பாடல் மூலம் இசைக்கு மொழிகள் தேவை இல்லை என்று நான் உணர்ந்தேன். கமல் ஹாசன் ஒரு நல்ல பாடல் ஆசிரியர் என்பது இப்பாடல் வரை எனக்குத் தெரியாது. ஆஷா போஸ்லேயின் குரல் இந்தியாவின் வட மாநிலங்களில் மிகப் பிரபலமாக இருந்தாலும், எனக்கு "கீச் கீச்" என்று தான் கேட்கும். வழக்கமாக எரிச்சல் ஏற்படுத்தும். ஆனால் இப்பாடலின் தொனிக்கு ஆஷா போஸ்லேயின் குரல் சிறந்த பொருத்தம். ஹரிஹரன் சில வரிகள் மட்டுமே பாடிய பொழுதும், அந்தச் சிறிய பொழுதில் மெய் சிலிர்க்க வைக்கிறார்.

ராஜா, ராஜா தான்! இந்த அற்புதமான பாடலைகேட்டு மகிழ்க:


There's a reason this song has been the most played song in my phone for months now. It's always been in the Top 25 most played playlist for years now. I could use a 1000 different adjectives to describe Ilayaraja's genius or the emotions his works evoke. But nothing fares to the happy, drunken admiration in the simple words uttered by almost every single Tamilian at different points in his/her life - "Raja, Raja dhan!" (ராஜா, ராஜா தான்). Loosely translated, it means there's only one Raja (Raja also means King in Tamil). The reaction is universal when a person of Tamil origin utters this sentence - a blissful smile, a twinkle in the eyes and a hint of unabashed admiration for the maestro's musical genius. I don't have a mirror in hand right now. But I could sense myself reacting in this fashion as the thought "Raja, Raja dhan" passes through my head. Thank you Raja sir for this wonderful gem.
